Palmetto House is a program of Crisis Ministries serving homeless women and children in Summerville, South Carolina. Palmetto House was established by Dorchester Interfaith Outreach Ministries in 1989 in response to needs arising from Hurricane Hugo. Today, Palmetto House provides temporary supportive housing for single women and families who find themselves homeless.
Since 2012, Palmetto House has been a program of Crisis Ministries, enabling Palmetto House guests to receive all the services offered to guests of Crisis Ministries, such as case management, housing counseling, medical care, civil legal services, education and employment services, and more.
We are grateful for the volunteers who give their time and energy to ensure Palmetto House continues to be a success. If you would like to know more about volunteering, please call our office at (843) 723-9477.
Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve breakfast and dinner daily. Breakfast is served at 7:00 a.m. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. Volunteer groups of three to five individuals are needed to provide, prepare and serve the meal.
Want to help but can't volunteer on site? Currently the Palmetto House is in need of breakfast items. Healthy cereals, skim milk and fresh fruit will help start the day right for the women and children living at the Palmetto House. Consider collecting breakfast items and then delivering them to the Palmetto House Monday-Friday from 9-11 a.m. or 2-4 p.m.
To see available dates to serve a meal, check out our Volunteer Calendar. If you see an available date that matches your schedule, call us to get on the calendar (843) 723-9477.
School groups, neighborhood groups, churches, and civic clubs regularly volunteer at Palmetto House. If you are part of a group that wants to volunteer, give us a call!
If you are a single female or a female with dependant children in need of temporary housing, please call our Housing Assistance Line (843) 737-8357.
